SRINAGAR: Minister for medical education Taj Mohi-ud-Din today said that he supports the employees’ demand of enhancement in retirement age from 58 to 60 years, saying he may be the only one from the government to do so.
However, he further stated that before taking any decision, the government is bound to evolve a consensus on such an important demand of employees.
“All the sections of the society have to be taken on board and that it is the Cabinet which will have to take a final call on the issue,” the minister said.
Taj said that he personally supports the demand of enhancement in retirement age as in Centre the employees get retired at the age of 60. “When they at the Centre think to increase the retirement age to 62 why can not we go for at least 60,” he asked.
Expressing serious concern over the frequent strike calls being extended by the employees’ leadership, Taj said that the way employees have adopted to achieve their demands is not correct. “I never support any confrontational attitude. The employees have genuine demands and in taj they will find probably the only advocate of their demands.”
He refuted JCC leadership allegations that some ministers want to create wedge between employees and the state government, saying that neither finance minister Abdul Rahim Rather nor he himself is against employees.
“It is a baseless allegation that we want any sort of difference between employees and the government. But what I oppose is the indiscipline. After all they are the government employees and they are supposed to abide b rules and regulations,” Taj said.
