SRINAGAR: The government has ordered an inquiry into non-disbursement of funds for free medication of cancer patients in a Jammu Hospital.
Minister for Medical Education, Taj Mohidin paid a surprise visit to Regional Cancer Centre at Government Medical College, Jammu on Tuesday, an official spokesman said.
He ordered the attachment of Prof. Aushtosh Gupta, Head of the Oncology department till the inquiry is completed.
The inquiry committee would be headed by Administrator, GMC & Associated Hospitals and it has been asked to submit its report within shortest possible time, the spokesman said.
In Jammu and Kashmir, doctors are concerned about the number of cancer patients increasing at an alarming pace.
Minister Mohidin has asked doctors to redouble their efforts to make the Cancer centres in the state fully functional “so that the patients suffering from cancer don’t have to travel outside for treatment.”
