SRINAGAR: Warm and woolen clothes are out in the Kashmir valley, where temperature dropped considerably due to snowfall on upper reaches and rain in plains, including summer capital, Srinagar, disrupting normal life.
However, a Met department spokesman said the weather will improve tomorrow when the impact of Western Disturbance (WD) will ease.
The upper reaches in famed health resort of Pahalgam, in south Kashmir, received fresh snowfall, clearly visible from a distance as trees in the woods had turned white, a hotel owner said. He said Pahalgam received rains, resulting in considerable drop in the temperature, forcing people, including tourists to wear woolen and warm cloths.
Reports of light to moderate snowfall were received from holy Amarnth cave shrine and its periphery, Sheshnag, Managuns, Pisso top and Panjterni on traditional yatra route. Upper heights in Shopian also received light snowfall, reports said.
There was rain since yesterday, resulting in drop in the temperature, a tourist official said from world famous ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir. He said the sky is cloudy and nothing could be seen in the upper reaches.
People could be seen wearing woolen and warm clothes besides Kashmiri ‘ Pheran’ because of cold.
Snowfall has occurred in the heights as icy cold winds continued to sweep. The upper reaches, including areas near the Line of Control (LoC) also experienced light to moderate snowfall early this morning.
In Srinagar, where the civil secretariat, seat of the government , including office of Chief Minister and his cabinet colleagues will close on September 25 for annual Darbar move to reopen in the first week of next month.
It was still raining, disrupting normal life. Majority people remained indoor because of holiday due to icy cold winds outside. People could be seen wearing woolen and warm clothes besides Kashmiri ‘ Pheran’ because of cold. Almost all roads, bylanes and lanes were under rain water, making pedestrian and vehicle movement difficult. Many roads were closed due to rain water.
However, weather office has issued a forecast that weather will be improve tomorrow as the impact of the Western Disturbance, which originates in Arabian sea and enters the region through Afghanistan and Pakistan, will ease.
