SRINAGAR: Thousands of people today visited markets for shopping on the last Sunday before Eid-ul-Fitr to make purchases of essentials, clothes, shoes and other items in the Kashmir valley, particularly in summer capital, Srinagar.
However, despite ministers and officials interveation, there was hardly any impact in the market as the prices of everything was sky high.
Hundreds of roadside vendors have put up their stalls, selling everything, including food items, bakery and needle to carpets, on both sides of the three-km-long Sunday Market from Radio Kashmir, Srinagar crossing to Hari Singh High Street (HSHS) since early this morning.
Despite hot weather, customers from different parts of the valley were seen making purchases in the market, a weekly attraction in the city.
A number of big business houses are also setting up their stalls in the market through agents or salesmen in the market.
A large number of other shops, which otherwise remaine closed on Sundays were open because of Eid rush.
