SRINAGAR: Thousands of people Monday attended the funeral of the Kashmiri student who was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Hyderabad, even as shops and other businesses were closed in the valley due to a shutdown called by separatists.
The body of Mudasir Kamran was brought to Parigam village in Pulwama district today from Hyderabad where he was found hanging in his hostel room on Saturday.
Before burial at his ancestral graveyard with thousands of people in attendance, the late Mudasir’s body was taken for autopsy to the Pulwama hospital after which it was handed over to the family for the last rites.
However the situation remained peaceful, police said.
Some incidents of stone pelting were reported from Safakadal, Rajouri Kadal, Nawabazar, Karanagar and a couple of places from Srinagar city, a police spokesperson said.
Stone pelting was also reported from Magam in Budgam, Khanpora in Baramulla and Poshwan in Pulwama, he added.
There are conflicting versions of how Mudasir Kamran died.
The joint advisory council of separatists, Muttahida Majlis-e-Mushawarat (MMM) had called for a valley-wide protest shutdown Monday alleging that the Kashmiri student had been “murdered by Hindu fanatics”.
It said “torture marks” were found on his body which “indicated that he was murdered brutally”.
But the police maintain that it was a simple case of suicide.
