SRINAGAR: The week-long winter session of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly beginning here tomorrow is likely to be a stormy affair with opposition parties gearing to corner the National Conference-led coalition government in the house on various issues, including recent revelations by former Army Chief, human rights violations, including Shopian killings, price rise and rising graph of unemployed youths and corruption.
Speaker Mubarak Gul has sought cooperation from all political parties for smooth conduct of the session, which could be probably the last in the summer capital, Srinagar, as general elections are due next year.
‘The coalition, headed by National Conference (NC) has failed on all fronts and there is no government visible on the ground as there is no end to human rights violations by security forces, youths are being targetted and put in jails, corruption has reached to highest peak, there is frustration among unemployed,’ chief spokesperson of the main opposition Nayeem Akhter said.
He said,’ We will be forcefully raising these issues in both the houses–Legislative Assembly and Council– during the session, commencing from tomorrow.’
He said the issue of recent revelations by former Army Chief General V K Singh will be raised in both the Houses.
‘We will demand that government should make a statement on this very important issue which has put a question mark on leaders of mainstream political parties,’ he said.
‘We will demand a thorough probe into these revelations,’ Mr Akhtar, MLC, the said, adding that let government reveal the names of those who were paid by the Army.
He said it is now clear that Centre never wanted a true democracy to florish in Jammu and Kashmir, which has resulted in more alienation.
