Sex taint hits Amarnath pilgrimage in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, July 22: Sex taint has hit the Amaranth yatra sevadaars or pilgrimage helpers after a woman pilgrim complained to the police that two of them were secretly filming her from a cell-phone when she was taking a bath in a make-shift washroom.

Jammu and Kashmir police arrested both the sevadars who are from Jalandhar in Punjab.

Superintendent of police Ganderbal Shahid Mehraj said the duo, who are working in langars (free kitchen) were taken into custody. “However we did not find any video of the woman on their mobile,” he said.

Mehraj noted that the woman claimed that the duo was peeping through a hole in the tin shed that was used as makeshift washroom.

“One of the sevadars had arranged hot water for her before she entered the temporary washroom for bath. She suspected that they were filming her when she was taking a bath,” he said.

This is the first time that the sex taint has hit the Amarnath yatra in Kashmir so far.

More than 5.5 lakh yatris have had darshan since the pilgrimage started.
