SHOPIAN: Residents of Shopian district in south Kashmir have accused paramilitary CRPF personnel of going on a rampage in orchards in the area.
The area has seen five killings by CRPF personnel since September 7 and subsequent violent demonstrations.
The allegations that CRPF men were damaging trees have been made by orchardists from Saidapora, Gagren, Wahil, Kilora, Zawoora, Batapora, Chanapora and Memandar villages.
A resident, Syed Zeenat-ul-Islam told a local news agency, CNS: “They have damaged so many apple trees and even the fencing of my orchard has been removed by these CRPF personnel.”
Many residents said CRPF men were not allowing farmers to visit their orchards even in those hamlets where there is no curfew.
The CRPF authorities could not be reached for comment. However this is not the first time that CRPF men have been accused of damaging property after protests in any part of Kashmir valley.
