SRINAGAR, Sept 24: At least eight people have died and nine others wounded after an overcrowded Tata Sumo vehicle lost control, skidded and fell into a deep gorge, police said on Monday.
The mishap took place at mountainous Cobra curve near Karnah in Kupwara district late on Sunday.
Six people died on the spot while two of them succumbed to their injuries in hospitals.
One person died at hospital in Karnah while another died at the SKIMS hospital in Srinagar, above 150 kms from the site of the accident, a police official said.
The nine injured have been shifted to various hospitals in the capital city.
The ill-fated vehicle, Tata Sumo, which has a capacity for eight passengers, was carrying 17 people, when the driver lost control on the rugged road.
