SRINAGAR: Mobile internet services have resumed on Friday, seven days after they were barred following the hanging of Afzal Guru in Delhi’s Tihar jail.
The service was barred amid many other restrictions – an indefinite curfew, blocking national news channels and stopping newspaper publication – placed to prevent violent demonstrations over Guru’s execution on Saturday.
The Chief Minister Omar Abdullah justified the ban saying mobile services are “the only source to spread rumours.”
“There have been restriction assessments in Kashmir. If not restricted, then the protest following the execution would have become the cause of concern,” he said.
News channels on cable network resumed three days after they were barred.
Newspapers resumed publication on Wednesday.
