SRINAGAR: Two policemen and a woman have been arrested in Kashmir capital Srinagar for running what police said was a seduction extortion racket, a local newspaper reports.
The Greater Kashmir newspaper wrote that the lady, an employee of the state’s social welfare department, seduced people with connivance of her accomplices in the police, who would then blackmail the victim for huge sums of money.
The trio then used to share the ‘booty’.
Police said the two cops were arrested on Wednesday after investigations over a complaint by the latest victim of the extortion group.
The lady, from Natipora area of the south city, was also arrested later that day.
An inquiry has been ordered into the matter and Superintendent of Police (SP) south Srinagar, Muhammad Suleiman Chowdhary will conduct the proceedings.

The woman, who has once been detained over charges of usurping money meant for widows, used to first develop a relationship with a person over phone.
As late night talks used to turn lewd, she would then persuade her “catch” to meet someplace, hinting at venereal activity, a police officer told the newspaper.
At the decided place, he said, the two policemen would then catch the ‘couple’ in a compromising position and threaten them of legal action.
However, after negotiations, a deal used to be settled for a huge amount of money, the victim not getting even a whiff of the staged action.
Investigating officials are trying to ascertain for how long the activity was going on, the newspapers wrote citing sources, adding that the trio was put to sustained questioning Friday.
