SRINAGAR: A teenage girl committed suicide by hanging herself in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, police said Thursday, the second suicide reported in the last three days.
The 16-year-old girl was at home in Gund Ibrahim village near Pattan when she hanged herself, they said.
Police say they are finding out why she took such an extreme step.
This is the fourth suicide in the last seven days, three of them by teenagers and one by an elderly person.
Three days ago, a 15-year-old boy hanged himself at his home in Phalmargh village in north Kashmir’s Handwara district.
Earlier on March 30, a 19 year old boy jumped into river Jehlum outside his home at Banger Mohalla area of Bandipora district and drowned.
The previous day, a 65-year-old man consumed poison and killed himself while at home in Noorkha village.
Qadir is survived by two sons and six daughters, four of whom are unmarried.
