Kashmir to host National Postal Football tournament

SRINAGAR, July 30: Encouraged by Kashmir’s response to goodwill matches between the hosts and one of India’s premier football teams, Mohammadan Sporting Club, a National level tournament is being organised by the department of Posts next month.

Chief Postmaster General John Samuel said the tournament will be held for five days starting August 25 at the Bakshi stadium in Srinagar.

“The All India Postal Football tournament 2012 will be a great opportunity for the entire state. Football is the favorite game in Kashmir valley. Also the tournament will offer an amazing experience to the participants to enjoy the unparalleled beauty of Kashmir and to enjoy the hospitality of the people,” Samuel said.

The tournament will be held in association with JK Sports Council and JK Football Association.

The chief Postmaster General said the department of Posts was also promoting sports activities in the region.

With violence waning in the region, sports and entertainment activities are picking up after two decades of violence.

“JK Postal Circle will be recruiting sports persons associated with different sports under Sports Quota,” Samuel said.
