Kashmir municipal committees may go high-tech

SRINAGAR, June 28:Government is contemplating to register and issue on-line building permission and birth certificates to the applicants in a time bound manner, a step to rid Kashmir of the tag of “second most corrupt” in the country.

Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand, asked the concerned officers to ensure early implementation of the plan to make the system people friendly.

“This would bring efficiency in the processing of applications being received in Municipal Corporations and Municipal Committees for granting building permission and issuance of birth certificates and minimize the hardships of people,” Tara Chand said.

Anti-corruption watchdog Transparency International rated Kashmir the second-most corrupt state in India after Bihar. But hardly any action was taken to weed out the corrupt.
