SRINAGAR: Amid reports of incursion by Chinese troops in Ladakh region recently, Governor N N Vohra today took stock of the situation relating to Leh and Srinagar airbases in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Governor was briefed by Air Commodore B Balachandran, Air Officer Commanding (AOC) Air Force Station (AFS), Srinagar.
The Governor was informed about IAF’s initiatives in further securing the frontiers and issues relating to the Leh and Srinagar airbases.
The Governor lauded the crucial efforts of the Indian Air Force in the Western Sector besides providing valuable support in carrying out rescue, relief and evacuation operations and enabling the civil authorities to deal with emergencies and natural calamities.
Meanwhile, a 5-member delegation of Al-Habib Foundation, Shalimar, also called on Mr Vohra and handed over a list of their demands which included need for financial support, accommodation and school transport facilities for educating special children.
The delegation briefed the Governor about the aims and objects of the Foundation, which was set up in 2010.
At present, 10 physically and mentally challenged children are being provided special day care at the Kounsar Special School-cum-Rehabilitation Centre to reduce their dependency, besides extending home-based care to 5 other such children.
Ms Kounsar informed that the Foundation has identified 150 special children who would be enrolled in the school in a phased manner.
