Kashmir govt to focus on wildlife tourism

JAMMU: Stressing on the need to promote wildlife tourism in Jammu and Kashmir, a state minister today said it has a great potential to draw tourists to the state.

Concerned authorities have been asked to launch an awareness campaign about wildlife destinations in Jammu and Kashmir, state Minister for Forests, Ecology and Environment Mian Altaf Ahmad said at Nagrota here.

He inspected the proposed site for setting up a Zoo at Khanpur Nagrota.

Forest and wildlife conservation needs a focused attention and the authorities have been directed to ensure all departmental projects are completed within the stipulated time period, he said.

Promoting wildlife tourism will boost the tourism sector and help the government in generation more jobs for the locals, the Minister said.

Ahmad said last year over one crore pilgrims visited Mata Vaishno Devi shrine at Katra and underlined the need to offer other attractions including wildlife tourism to such tourists.
