SRINAGAR: Senior separatist and chairman of the Hurriyat Conference (G), Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Monday reiterated his demand for dissolution of Village Defence Committees and strongly criticized Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s statement in which he had favoured VDCs.
He has also called for a complete shutdown in Jammu and Kashmir on August 15 ( on the occassion of India’s Independence Day) and also on August 16.
“RSS, VDC members and Jana Sangh have virtually waged a war against Muslims in Jammu and have planned for ethnic cleansing,” he alleged.
While castigating the state administration for ‘sheer negligence’, Geelani accused Omar of providing a clean chit to “culprits involved in arson, rapes and killings.”
“After the killing of four innocents and desecration of Holy Quran (in Gool), Omar came to the rescue of culprits and instead blamed religious preacher for no fault of his.”
“Omar is playing a foul and appeasing his masters in Delhi,” Geelani said.
He pledged that “We won’t allow any body to repeat 1947 like mayhem.”
He said the shutdown on August 16 would be a symbolic resentment and protest demonstration against the high handedness of VDCs.
