SRINAGAR, May 10: Five separatist militants were killed in Kashmir while attempting to cross the Line of Control (LoC), an army spokesperson said, adding that it was the first infiltration bid this year.
An army spokesman said five to six militants on Thursday morning were trying to enter into this side of Kashmir from Pakistani side.
“On being asked to surrender, the infiltrators opened heavy fire on our troops. The troops retaliated resulting in the killing of five terrorists,’ Defence Spokesperson Lt Col JS Brar said.
Identity of the slain terrorists in yet to be established, Brar added.
Security forces have already been put on high alert following intelligence reports that separatist guerrillas were planning to infiltrate into the state with the opening of the mountain passes after the snows had melted.
