Eye on polls, Kashmir chief seeks more ‘contact’ with people

JAMMU: Setting sights on the 2014 Lok Sabha polls which are just over a year away, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has sought to establish a connect with people in order to “effectively redress their grievances”.

Omar has asked his ministers to hold public hearings at party headquarters in Jammu and Srinagar to “have a feel of” the problems faced by people, and directed them to redress their grievances accordingly, a party spokesperson quoting Abdullah said on Wednesday.

A party communique said the Chief Minister has also approved schedules of the proposed public hearings to be chaired by state ministers.

Various state ministers, including Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather, Social Welfare Minister Sakina Itoo and Panchayati Raj Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar have been entrusted with the responsibility.
