SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah broke down in the state assembly when the opposition parties cornered him over the killing of one youth in Baramulla today (March 5).
“Only I know how difficult it is for me while I stand here to reply to the question,” a visibly shattered Abdullah said.
“The amount of anger in them (opposition) is less than it is in me right now,” he said.
The chief minister said “like always” he was being held responsible for “no fault” of his.
“Have I held fast to the Indian flag just to answer for each bullet. Somebody is hanged somewhere, the decision is taken somewhere, but I am held responsible,” he said.
Abdullah seemed to say that the death of the young man today was “unjustified”.
“Till now, nothing has come to my knowledge that there were any militants among the protesters or that the firing started from that side. We have dealt with stone pelting before,” he said.
He found it appropriate to hold AFSPA responsible.
“What will I tell my people, how will I make them understand ….That the law I’m taking about…the system…that under this system the army soldier who fired will not be held accountable.”
Taking a strong dig at New Delhi he said, “Am I mad that I keep on shouting remove AFSPA…No… I understand how this act is misused,” Abdullah said, while wiping his eyes.
