SRINAGAR: Despite clarifications from the National Conference (NC) leaders regarding their statements on Modi and BJP, All India Congress Committee (AICC) member, Abdul Gani Vakil has alleged that the NC has agreed to become silent partner of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP).
This, he said, was obvious from the statements of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Additional Secretary General of the NC Dr Mustafa Kamal.
He said the Congress will never endorse secret agreements of its coalition partner (NC) with BJP.
The AICC member and former minister criticised the alleged appeasement policy of the NC towards BJP and its Prime Ministerial candidate Narender Modi at a time when entire country is gearing for polls.
The NC leaders move was to secure power in the state, he said and alleged that NC has agreed to become silent partner of BJP.
Mr Vakil expressing surprise at the double standards adopted by NC, despite being in power with the support of Congress, said recent statement of Omar Abdullah endorsing Modi effect and Dr Kamal clearly announcing unconditional support to Modi are unambiguous indicators of double standards and opportunism adopted by NC.
He said Congress is a historical party and always work for the betterment of masses.
“We will never endorse behind curtain agreements of its coalition partner NC which can damage the secular fabric of this nation,” he said adding we can rather prefer to sacrifice power over maintaining secularism, amity and brotherhood in the country.
Mr Abdullah, however, and his uncle Dr Kamal have already clarified that they will remain in UPA and will never support BJP or Mr Modi.
