SRINAGAR: Three people who murdered a man while he delivered the Azaan or Muslim call for prayer in south Kashmir have been jailed for life.
The convicts for murder in a mosque in Shopian district in 2007 include a father and his son.
The Principal District and Sessions Judge, Shopian heard the arguments in this case four days ago.
On June 1 in 2007, Muhammad Yaseen Wani, a resident of Heerpora village was saying the Azaan for Isha or night prayer when he was assaulted.
According to a police statement, Abdul Rashid Wani, his son Sajad Ahmed and another man Rafiq Takad were convicted for the murder on 8th of this month.
The father-son duo are local residents while Mr Takad hails from Rajouri district of the state.
Besides the rigorous life sentence, the court has also imposed a fine of 50,000 rupees on the trio.
