Injured Schoolchildren ‘Not Treated’ At Ganderbal Hospital

Protestors Demand Action Against Doctors

SRINAGAR: Scores of people on Tuesday staged a massive protest against the District Hospital authorities in north Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

They shouted slogans against the government, alleging that their children, injured in an accident, were not given treatment as most of the doctors were absent from duty.

A local news agency, CNS, reports that a school bus carrying children of New Dream Land Educational Institute Ganderbal met with an accident at Barsoo Highway on Tuesday. At least six children were injured.

Parents and people said that when the injured schoolchildren were shifted to hospital for treatment they found that only one doctor was present there.

“The lone doctor who was present there was so exhausted that he did not bother to take care of injured children though even police officials too requested him to do so,” one of the parents said.

The Block Medical Officer, Ganderbal, Dr Shabir Ahmed Awan said: “Only four doctors have been posted at the hospital. What can I do? One doctor has been assigned night duty another doctor has gone for some important work. Dr Manzoor is handling Casuality while another doctor takes care of OPD,” BMO said.

However the protestors said that most of the sections of the hospital, including Dental Section, were closed when the injured children were brought in for treatment. The school Management then shifted all the injured children to nearby private clinics.
