PM Lays Foundation of 850 MW Hydel Project in J-K

SRINAGAR: Indian Prime Minister along with Chairperson of the ruling United Progressive Alliance, Sonia Gandhi reached Kishtwar in the morning and kickstarted their two-day tour of the strife-torn Jammu and Kashmir.

They were accompanied by Congress General Secretary in-charge Jammu and Kashmir Ambika Soni and Union health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad.

Singh and Gandhi paid tribute to the eight army soldiers Killed in a daring militant attack in Kashmir capital Srinagar on Monday.

The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone of 850 MW Hydel project and added that efforts will be made to complete the project by February 2018.

Ms Gandhi vowed to address environmental concerns. “Ecology and Bio Diversity should be protected while carrying out development projects like 850 MW Rattle power Project,” she said.

The group also met the representatives of thousands of families affected by a devastating earthquake last month.

The Prime minister along with his associates have left for Srinagar where meetings have been scheduled at the SKICC.

A general strike has paralysed life in the valley. Separatist groups had appealed to people to stay home to show their protest against New Delhi’s rule in the region.

There’s a curfew like situation in Srinagar and the police are not allowing any civilian movement in the city.
