SRINAGAR: An officer of Jammu and Kashmir cadre posted in Bihar has been suspended for allegedly demanding bribe from the state’s liquor mafia, local media there reported.
Alok Kumar, a 1997 batch IPS officer of J&K cadre, has served as an anti-insurgency officer in the embattled state for many years and has had stints in Srinagar and Kupwara.
He was sent on deputation to his native state of Bihar, where he was now posted as Deputy Inspector general, Saran range.
He has been suspended after Tunaji Pandey, a native of Bihar’s Siwan district and the dealer of a Saharanpur-based liquor company, complained that he demanded a bribe of 10 crores from him, Bureaucracy Today reported.
There were also reports that he will be sent back to Jammu and Kashmir.
The Bihar police chief had sought action against him from the home department.
Earlier, a J&K cadre IPS officer was found involved in multi-crore graft in narcotics and his links with drugs mafia were established.
