Being ragged? Log on to register your complaint

SRINAGAR, July 26: Taking its efforts to check ragging in educational institutions a step further, the Human Resource Development (HRD) ministry Thursday launched a website where students can register their complaints in case they were being subjected to harassment by colleagues.

The website (www.antiragging.in) will also act as a database of anti-ragging affidavits affirmed by students and their parents, which will function as a record of all the complaints received and subsequent actions taken.

In country capital New Delhi, HRD Minister Kapil Sibal inaugurated the portal which, he said, was part of efforts to check ragging after the Supreme Court directed the government to set up a toll-free anti-ragging helpline or a call centre and a database of educational institutions including the students.

“The web portal is a term being used for all background software development that is necessary for smooth functioning of the Ragging Prevention Program,” an official spokesperson said.

The official said that all calls received by Anti-ragging Helpline (18001805522) will be managed and followed up in a structured software system.

“Students can see the status or progress of their complaints any time on the website and can also download the anti-ragging affidavit,” he said.
