KARGIL: As many as 275 polling stations have been set up in Kargil, which has been divided into 13 zones for the third annual general election of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), to be held on August 22.
Polling in all the 24 constituencies will start at 0800 hrs and end at 1600 hrs, Kargil Deputy Commissioner, Fida Hussain said. He said two candidates Advocate Mohammad Amir from Stakchey Khangral and Aga Mohammad Hassan (Arman) from Saliskote constituencies have already been elected uncontested.
Mr Hussain said that the whole process will be completed by September 2 with the formation of the new LAHDC, Kargil. The Kargil district has been divided into 13 zones, he said adding one zonal magistrate each will be deployed to monitor the polls.
He said it has further been divided into 26 sectors with 26 sectoral magistrates and they will be responsible for maintaining law and order in their respective zones, Mr Hussain said poll parties along with poll material have already been dispatched to far flung and remote areas, including Zanaskar.
In some areas, poll officials had to cover hilly and difficult terrain on foot to reach their respective places. Mr Hussain said 275 polling stations, including 67 hyper sensitive and 105 sensitive polling stations have been set up for the polling in the district.
He said additional security force personnel from Kashmir have arrived which will be deployed for maintaining law and order besides providing a free and peaceful atmosphere to voters to cast their ballots.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Kargil, Sujit Kumar said the Kargil district has been divided into three sectors.
