SRINAGAR: At least one person has been critically wounded after the police fired their guns to break up a stone-pelting crowd in Kulgam district of south Kashmir.
A journalist in the area told FreePress that a large number of youth defied curfew in Redwani village and threw stones at a camp of the counter-insurgency Special Operations Group of the police.
The SOG men lobbed tear smoke shells and fired rubber bullets and pellets to disperse them, he said.
The youth, Amir lone, has been hit in the neck. It is not clear what has hit him.
He was shifted to a hospital in Bijbehara town where doctors referred him to Srinagar for medical help.
A shutdown is being observed in the Kashmir valley against the killing of a civilian in firing by the CRPF on Wednesday, days after it shot dead four youth in the same area. The CRPF has denied that any firing took place in the area yesterday.
A curfew was imposed in three districts of south Kashmir Thursday morning.
