SRINAGAR: At least three soldiers are reported killed in a firefight with militants in Tral town, 40 km south of Kashmir capital Srinagar.
Police say the fighting broke out after the troops (of Rashtriya Rifles unit) cordoned off Buchoo Baala village and launched a search for militants.
The militants are not known to have suffered any casualties so far.
The army has not issued any statement on the incident yet. The operation is on .
Militancy has been on the decline in Jammu and Kashmir state for nearly a decade now. However sporadic incidents have been taking place.
