SRINAGAR: Spices of a certain Pakistani brand, imported to Kashmir through the cross-LoC trade, has been found to be of sub-standard quality.
Authorities have found ‘Shan Chappali Kabab Masala’ containing lumps without aromatic odour and also insoluble ash.
The spice packets were manufactured by Shan foods Pvt Ltd, Karachi.
Development Health officer of Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Dr Shafqat Khan has told a local news agency that the spice samples were picked up during a drive against substandard food products.
“We started a drive and took hundred samples of various food items which are sold in the markets of Kashmir, particularly Masalas, drinks, milk and the dairy products…and sent these samples to the Public Analyst for analysis…,” he said.
Mr Khan said the Pakistani spice was among other products – juices – manufactired in Indian states.
He assured that all the substandard products will be seized.
