“National Conference Helpless As AFSPA Continues”
SRINAGAR: Senior leader of the ruling National Conference party in Kashmir, Mustafa Kamal has termed the government probe into the killing of five youth in Shopian by the CRPF as an “eyewash”.
He has said such killings would continue to occur till the Armed Forces Special Powers Act – which provides immunity from prosecution to soldiers operating here – is not repealed.
The National Conference rules Jammu and Kashmir in coalition with the Congress party.
Mr Kamal, who is the NC’s additional General Seccretary, told a local news agency, CNS, “we all know that killers are enjoying impunity under AFSPA.”
He has attacked the Communist Party’s state secretary, Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami, for saying that the government was not serious in punishing the “killers in Shopian”.
Mr Kamal suggested that the NC was helpless.
“Why we stress on the revocation of AFSPA? We want that AFSPA should be repealed from trouble valley because these Indian Forces, after killing innocent people, feel free and get encouraged for more killings,” he said.
“These killers must be punished but alas, AFSPA saves these savages.”
