SRINAGAR:Expressing serious concern over the plight of teachers, the Communist Party of India(M) today said the Jammu and Kashmir government should fulfill its obligation of safeguarding the genuine service interests of this ‘suffering’ community.
With reference to the Teachers’ Day, state secretary of the CPI(M) Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami said the government must honour its commitment towards teachers’ community including lecturers, headmasters, masters, teachers, Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReTs) and Education Volunteers (EVs).
He, however, said the teachers should also honour their pious profession and live up to their professional standards. He said the government must concede to the genuine demands of ReTs.
The CPI(M) leader rued that the initial five years service of ReTs has not given effect in inclusion in their service records thwarting them from the promotional benefits.
‘Compared to 135 days maternity leave with full wages for General line teachers ReT’s are being provided with only one month maternity leave without wages which is against the principle of social security,’ he said.
He demanded due consideration regarding transfer of female ReTs to their respective areas after marriage deserves due consideration.
He also expressed concern over the non-payment of wages to teachers working under SSA scheme.
