SRINAGAR: An official team from Kashmir has left for Saudi Arabia to woo the rich Arabs to this scenic region of lakes, meadows and lofty snow-clad Himalayas.
Minister for Tourism Ghulam Ahmad Mir, along with officials of the Tourism department, intends to oversee and organise road shows in various cities of the Arab kingdom.
“We will be on a five day trip during which road shows would be conducted in Riyad, Jidah, Damam and other towns,” Talat Parvaiz, Director Tourism and a member of the team, told a local news agency KNS.
Armed violence between separatist militants and security forces that started more than two decades ago is waning in the state. Last year more than 1.5 million tourists visited Kashmir, but most of them were domestic tourists from across the country.
Authorities are working hard to pull international tourists, particularly the high-end class, to the valley.
