Retirement Age Row: J&K Govt Employees to Protest on Sept 20, 21

JAMMU: After observing three-day-long agitation for in support of increase in retirement age from present 58 to 60 and regularisation of daily wagers, the Jammu and Kashmir government employees today announced a complete shutdown on September 20 and 21.

“The three days of agitations and demonstrations have passed off today but there was no positive response from the government side,” Gafoor Dar, Joint Coordination Committee leader said.

Protesting employees are demanding increase in the retirement age from present 58 years to 60 years, regularisation of daily wagers, said the committee leader.

The demand also included casual labourers and contractuals, who have completed seven years in service and release of pay of employees of different departments and undertakings, who are without salaries for the past six months.

Before going to strike, demonstrations will be held at all district headquarters on September 17 in Jammu region and on September 18 and 19 at Srinagar, Mr Dar added.

He added that the government has forced the employees to adopt agitational path adding, “We will continue our fight for rights.

The state government has betrayed us.” Earlier, employees assembled outside the Excise and Taxation Office amid anti-government slogans and demanded early redressal of their grievances.
