NEW DELHI: The National Human Rights Commission today took suo-motu cognisance of media reports that four people died and 42 sustained injuries when guards of BSF Camp in Ramban, Jammu & Kashmir opened fire on the people.
Thirteen of the injured were airlifted and admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital, Jammu, the NHRC said in a statement.
Reportedly, hundreds of people had marched to the BSF Camp alleging that some personnel had gate-crashed into the mosque wearing shoes thereby desecrating the place of worship and also roughed up the Namazis.
The Commission has observed that the contents of the press report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights of the victims and issued notices to the Union Home Secretary and DGP, Jammu & Kashmir, calling for reports within four weeks, the statement added.
