SRINAGAR: Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi arrived in Kashmir capital Srinagar on Wednesday evening after a day-long visit to the winter capital Jammu.
Mr Gandhi was accompanied by Congress general secretary Ambika Soni and state party president Saif-ud-Din Soz when he landed at the Srinagar airport.
He drove straight to the Nehru Guest House in the high-security Cheshma Shahi area of Srinagar where he is staying for the night.
Police and paramilitary forces were deployed in strength all along the 15-km road from the airport to the guest house, adjacent to the Raj Bhawan.
Two delegations called on the Congress leader.

One was led by Asgar Ali Karbalei, chief executive councillor of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council. The other was headed by Nawang Rigzin Jora, a Congress minister from Leh in Ladakh region.
Mr Gandhi has a busy schedule in the Kashmir Valley Thursday.
He will inaugurate a controlled atmosphere fruit storage facility in south Kashmir Pulwama district.
He will address a women’s self-help initiative in central Badgam district besides meeting the Congress leadership in Srinagar before concluding his two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir.
