QAZIGUND: Scores of people blocked the Srinagar-Jammu Highway in south Kashmir on Monday after some masked men, donning black attires, tried to snatch a baby boy from his mother.
Police have dismissed the snatching incident as a rumour.
A local woman complained that the masked men in black tried to snatch her baby, Arifat Hussain Mir, and that when she raised a cry they fled into a nearby army camp, a local news agency, CNS reports.
Soon, protestors assembled near Lower Munda Toll Post and blocked traffic, demanding that the culprits be punished.
The Army and the police have denied this.
“We talked to Army officer and they denied the allegation. We can’t blame anyone for none of their fault,” Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Qazigund, Rahul Malik told the news agency.
“There is no witness to the incident and we are investigating the matter,” he said.
Station House Officer, Qazigund told the news agency that it was only a rumour.
“Miscreants spread such rumour and people blocked the traffic and when we told them the fact, they dispersed peacefully,” he said.
