SRINAGAR: Local residents in Wuyan village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district staged a protest today demanding that an army camp recently set up in the area be immediately removed.
Witnesses told Freepress that the protesters blocked roads and threatened to launch an agitation if their demand was not met.
The army recently set up bunkers and pitched tents on a piece of land belonging to the Public Health Engineering department.
Meanwhile, the MLA of the area, who belongs to the main opposition People’s Democratic Party, asked the government to immediately remove the Army camp.
“The government on one hand claims return of normalcy and decline in militancy but on the other hand new camps are being established in the peaceful areas, causing inconvenience to general public,” MLA Zahoor Ahmed Mir said in a statement.
