SRINAGAR: Protests erupted in a south Kashmir village after a young man was found dead this morning, witnesses say.
Bilal Ahmed Dar’s body was found by local residents in a field near the railway track at Monghalla village, reportedly covered with a plastic sheet.
His nephew, Mohsin told freepresskashmir that Dar was picked up by the police late on Monday and was allegedly killed in their custody.
The police deny this. “I spoke to brother of the deceased. He said he does not blame us but only wanted us to investigate and bring out the truth,” Superintendent of Police, Showkat Ahmed said.
Police have registered a case and Dar’s body has been sent for post mortem.
Meanwhile the main opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has called for a probe into Dar’s death.
