SRINAGAR: A protest erupted in Palhalan area of North Kashmir’s Pattan town on Monday after police arrested two youth for their alleged involvement in stone-pelting.
Police sources said that a group of youth had appeared on the Palhalan Highway to enforce shutdown in the area on Sunday.
These youth, according to them, threw stones on the police and other public vehicles and also smashed the windowpanes of scores of vehicles.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, North Kashmir, J.P.Singh told a local news agency, CNS, that “a third youth is on run and we are going to book him soon.”
However, family members of the arrested youth have accused the police of falsely implicating their sons.
The youth have been identified as Showkat Ahmed Malik son of Ghulam Mohammad resident of Bhagat Mohalla, Palhalan and Wasim Gul son of Mohammad Ashraf Nadaf, resident of Shah Mohalla.
