SRINAGAR: Authorities in Kashmir have stopped publication of newspapers in the capital Srinagar and other parts of the valley today.
Police visited the printing presses of various newspapers late at night and ordered them not to print for Sunday.
An editor of the Rising Kashmir said “We were ready with the master copy of the newspaper, but the police arrived at the printing press and told us not to print.”
The leading daily Greater Kashmir has reported on its web page that “though no written orders were issued to the media groups, the managements were verbally asked not to publish the newspapers.”
However online editions of most of the newspapers are available.
Earlier the authorities had asked cable operators to stop beaming of all the news channels. Only the government-owned Doordarshan has been allowed.
Internet services have also been affected with only the Broadband service of BSNL still available.
