SRINAGAR: Police have arrested who they claim is a ‘cyber stalker’ and harassed a girl by posting objectionable content on the internet.
A police spokesperson said they received a complaint from a girl (name withheld) that she was being persecuted by some cyber stalker, who was disseminating obscene material and comments against her online.
The spokesperson added that the accused was running a fake facebook account under the name – [email protected].
But whether the stalker belongs to Kashmir is not clear, nor is the gender.
The internet, particularly the social networking sites are full of messages by users stating that their accounts have been “compromised” and that any objectionable material posted in their name should be ignored. But not many, especially girls, seek police help in this Muslim-majority region for different reasons.
There is one cyber-crime police station in the valley, situated in the capital Srinagar.
The police said they have filed a case against the accused, who has not been identified, under Section 66 of the Information Technology Act.
“The investigating team cracked the account and arrested the accused,” they said.
