SRINAGAR, Sept 22: Three members of Kashmir’s militant group, Hizb-ul-Mujahideen, have been arrested in south Kashmir dealing a further blow to the pro-Pakistan rebel group which has lost most of its senior cadres in fierce clashes with security forces in recent past, police said on Saturday.
Hizb-ul-Mujahideen was the largest militant group till violence started declining after India and Pakistan began a ceasefire and a peace process in 2003 and 2004.
“Acting on a specific information, Tral Police apprehended three HM militants,” a police spokesmna said.
He added that one sniper rifle and two pistols were recovered from their possession.
The violence, involving security forces and militants, has nearly disappeared in Kashmir but people are still killed in almost occasional gun battles and blasts.
