SRINAGAR, July 11: At least three people, including a student, have died and dozens others injured after an excursion going bus fell into a gorge near Tangmarg in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district, police said Wednesday.
A fourteen-year-old boy, Owais Manzoor and a teacher, Jehangir Ahmed died when a packed bus of Iqra Education Institute, Khumriyal, Lolab in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge at Nambal Nard in Tangmarg, 45 kms from capital Srinagar.
The driver of the bus, Muhammad Akhtar Ganaie also died.
“The bus was on an excursion to the tourist resort of Gulmarg,” a police official said.
More than thirty students and teachers have been injured in the incident and have been sent to hospital for medical help, he said.
Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah has expressed deep grief over the incident. In his condolence message, Omar said he has been deeply saddened to hear about the loss of lives in the road accident.
“He conveyed his heartfelt condolence and sympathy to the bereaved family and showed his solidarity with them at this movement of grief and sorrow,’ the official statement said.
