SRINAGAR: The Power Development Department (PDD) has disconnected the supply of electricity to sitting members of the Parliament and the state legislative assembly besides some former ministers for non-payment of tariff.
A senior leader of the governing National Conference and member of the Rajya Sabha, Mohammed Shafi Uri owes a staggering sum of Rs 1,29330 to the department, a local news agency KNS reports.
A Congress leader and former minister, Abdul Gani Vakil has an outstanding of 77317 rupees against him.
The opposition people’s Democratic Party of PDP’s MLA from Rajpora, Syed Bashir comes third with an outstanding of Rs 55,000 against him.
A former President of the state Congress, Ghulam Rasool Kar besides the legislators Khalid Najeeb Suharwardy and Zahoor Ahmed Mir are also among the defaulters.
The electricity supply has been stopped to their official bungalows at Tulsi Bagh in Srinagar.
However, most of them are at present staying in the state’s winter capital Jammu where the lawmaking assembly is in session these days.
