TRAL: In a glaring peep into the healthcare system here, the Gynaecology ward of a hospital in Tral town of south Kashmir has been locked for the past two months.
All this while, local women in labour have been referred to Srinagar, over 50km away, for delivery.
On Thursday, residents also held a protest, appealing to the authorities to intervene.
They alleged doctors present at Sub-district Hospital, Tral, “were reluctant” to treat expecting mothers after some protestors ransacked equipment two months ago as a pregnant woman had died allegedly due to their negligence.
However, a doctor posted there, Dr Parvena Farid, told a local news agency, CNS, that she is unable to operate upon pregnant women because the hospital lacks a blood bank facility.
“The hospital is even lacking Multi Channel Monitor Machine. I can’t play with the lives of patients and thus refer every patient to L.D Hospital Srinagar,” she said
Officials of the health department could not be reached for comment despite repeated attempts.
