SRINAGAR: Police in Kashmir say they have arrested an employee of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) for allegedly issuing fake parking tickets to car owners.
The police is looking for the kingpin who also happens to be the employee of SMC, a local news agency, CNS reports.
Sources have told the agency that the SMC parking located near old Secretariat was operated by its employee, Abdul Rehman. Few days ago a vehicle went missing from the parking lot following which police swung into action.
Soon after the incident, Abdul Rehman went at large to evade arrest. He assigned the job to another SMC employee, Altaf Ahmed, who has now been arrested.
“Police recovered two kinds of receipts from him and there are ample chances that the duo used to issue fake receipts to the owners of the vehicles, thus draining the exchequer,” DySp Shaheed Gunj, Suresh Kumar said.
He said that the police raided two places to nab the real culprit, Abdul Rehman, but could not nab him.
“We are on job and soon he would be arrested. The police is investigating the matter and hopefully things would get clear,” Police official said.
When contacted, senior official of the SMC said action would be initiated against these two employees if the fraud is proved. “We are waiting for the police report and I assure you that nobody will be spared,” he said.
