ISLAMABAD: Pakistani political party, Jamaat-e-Islami has given a call to observe “Kashmir Solidarity Day” on February 5 to express support for the people of Kashmir in what it said was their “freedom struggle”.
The party will hold rallies and seminars in Islamabad and provincial capitals to “condemn” what it said was India’s “illegal occupation” of Kashmir for the last six decades, the daily said. But there will be no shutdown, local media reported.
In a statement, the party said peace in Kashmir region could be restored only with the solution of the issue in accordance with the sentiments of the Kashmiri people.
Pakistan has been observing the day every year, and political parties, religious and militant groups used to take out processions reminding the people and world about Pakistan’s stand on Kashmir issue.
“The basic objective of observing the day was to create public awareness and that could be achieved through different means other than observing strikes,” the committee had said.
