SRINAGAR:Work in the High Court and other district and subordinate courts in Kashmir was affected due to a strike by lawyers, protesting against the killing of Pakistani prisoner Sanaullah Haq Ranjay.
Ranjay died at a Chandigarh hospital yesterday. He was being treated for critical wounds after a fellow inmate attacked him in a Jammu jail last week.
Congress leader Digvijay Singh said the attack “in response to an attack on Sarabjit (Indian prisoner who died after being attacked in Pakistani prison) should not have happened.”
The lawyers’ said they observed the strike to express their anger and show solidarity with the Ranjays.
They demanded that a case of murder under Section 320 RPC be registered against the assailant and also the jail superintendent Rajni Sehgal.
Ms Sehgal has been placed under suspension. The authorities have ordered a probe into the killing.
