Over 300 Income Generating Units Set up in North Kashmir

SRINAGAR: More than 300 Income Generating Units (IGUs) have been set up in north Kashmir districts of Bandipora and Kupwara, officials say.

They say the Khadi and Village Industries Board (KVIB) has also provided 35 per cent subsidy component to help unemployed youths to set up their units.

Officials say 127 IGUs have been set up in Kupwara, once a hub of militants, during the previous two years. For this purpose, the financial institutions have distributed an amount of Rs 4.26 crore among the 881 educated unemployed youth of the district.

The KVIB has provided subsidy component of Rs 1.50 crore as 35 per cent share and 100 educated unemployed youth are being provided financial assistance for setting up their own income generating units during the next financial year.

Financial assistance to the tune of Rs 6.14 crore has also been advanced to establish 181 IGUs under KVIB in Bandipora. For this purpose, a subsidy component of Rs 2.26 crore was provided to the unit holders.

Also a day-long awareness camp for the educated unemployed youth on setting up their IGUs, organized by Nehru Yuva Kendra in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra at Dak Bungalow, was held on Friday.
